1. "loveless" - by my bloody valentine (november 4, 1991)
a soft, necessary, noise album, with barely heard lyrics..
that when you search for them, they are near impossible to find.
not only only do the drones describe every emotion,
but the album art is one that makes you feel the music.
an album given to me by my best friend in life,
and will always bring a close heart and fond memories to mind.
favorite song: 'sometimes'




2. "eingya" - by helios (june 20, 2006)
i didn't love this album until i heard 'paper tiger',
the series of song five through seven are so inspiring..
it actually brought me to tears.
this album got be through my last two high school year,
it gave me hope and desires, through pure musical composition.
favorite song: 'coast off'





3. "barenaked ladies are me" - by the barenaked ladies (september 12, 2006)
barenaked ladies have always been my favorite band,
since i was a kid, i remember listening to their music,
while playing ol' school nitendo mario games.
but this album, made me realize a whole new level of bnl's growth.
over the years, they had grown up as well.
and something about 'are me' and the connection it had to my life, and my art was incredible. 'think of all the lives saved by plastic knives'
is a lyric that has always stuck with me.
i love this album, along with the artist, that have grown up with me.

4. "the good, the bad, and the queen" - by the good, the bad, and the queen (january 22, 2007)
in the last self titled song.. i changed. i've always disliked the use of album names,
band names, and lyrics within the song turning into the name of the song..
but this song make you want to keep breathing.
the whole ablum itself is about something far greater
than just 'teen drama' or 'sex and drugs and cocopuffs'
or whatever kids are into now a days..
i gives you something more the think about,
the dream about.. not just 'everything in black and white'

5. "sharpen your teeth" - by ugly casanova (may 21, 2002)
modest mouse has mused me since i first heard them,
but this album by one of the members from it took mm's reputation to shame.
the complex ideas are way beyond anything i'd every heard.
it may seem like a silly album about 'dressed up alligators and cum on the paino'
but there is so much more. when i heard this album,
i instantly new i had to share it. the first person on that list was torrell
it's an album ment for artist to understand and inspire from.

6. "yoshimi battles the pink robots" - by the flaming lips (july 16, 2002)
the albums flow and contrast is enough to make you want more.
but 'do you realize?' is enough to understand why this whole album is on here.

7. "de stijl" - by the white stripes (june 20, 2000)
the white stripes.. they had to be on this list somewhere.
they may not be 'three' like they would hope to be, but they are lucky seven.
until i heard this album i didn't know i could love something like 'blues'..
this album opened a whole new musical interest for me with its covers especially of 'death letter'.
at first, i didn't really understand this album,
but after a 'few' listens, after years of loving ws, it's become a must-have.

8. "the milk-eyed mender" - by joanna newsom (march 23, 2004)
i had heard 'sprout and the bean' from the movie 'the strangers'..
and i knew i needed this album. as a birthday present from someone i love,
i instantly couldn't put this album down. it become on the top of my most listens,
and her eerie voice hit me hard. this album inspired me,
and helped me take me enter a whole new direction of art.
though her voice might not be for everyone, her lyrics are.

9. "bury the hatchet" - by the cranberries (april 19, 1999)
this album was orginally bought for the artwork only. i saw this album in the used cd collection, when shopping as an early teen. i remember seeing it before,
on my sister's shelf at a younger age perhaps? either way, i bought is for $3.99.
when i got home, i took a listen,
only to find the album understanding everything i was feeling and thinking.
though they were far from cool at the time, and still 'an ol' nintys band'
they were who i was, this re-opened the door for my love for '90s music,
and the door will never be shut again.

10. "forgetabout" - by qua (april 10, 2007)
this album you can't say much about,
it's something tha you need to hear to understand.
it speaks for itself, and i don't feel right speaking for it.
favorite song: 'duet for guitar and fridge'




11. "the shepherd's dog" - by iron and wine (september 25, 2007)
i bought this album the week it came out, i remeber buying it,
stopping at wegmans and getting some things..
then going home. when i got home, i listened to instantly.
a friend of mine at the time and i fell hard right away.
the first song made us dance, the album made us laugh,
then later cry. it was about us, and our sr yr...
at the time, it was filled with everything..
everything, we needed at the time.

12. "armchair apocrypha" - by andrew bird (march 20, 2007)
i looked everywhere for this album, and i couldn't find it anywhere.
finally after almost a year of it being realized, i found it at alt music.
i was busy that week, and didn't have time to listen right away,
but finally when i did... i could barely breath.
it was so beautiful, i couldn't believe i had waited so long to hear it.
favorite song: 'heretics'




13. "the moon & antarctica" - by modest mouse (june 13, 200)
being the third ablum released by modest mouse, the minute i heard the song '3rd planet'
it defined who i was. i was going through a lot in life.
i had bought this album in my sr yr of high school, in the process of self discovery,
i heard '3rd planet' felt an amazing sense of loss,
suddenly so much was put into perspective, after the song,
i cried.. harder then i had in a long time.
and by the time i'd gotten to 'wild pack of family dogs'..
i was a complete wreck.
i still can not listen to this album without sheding a tear.
but albums with that much power.. well they must be a great album.

14. "show your bones" - by the yeah yeah yeahs (march 27, 2006)
i originally bought this album 'cause i thought it had a song, from a previous album on it.
i loved the song 'maps' so much.. but to find it on a different album,
i was completely depressed, i wanted to return this. but..
in this mix up.. i found something much more.
i love karen o's voice, it's completely stunning,
this album made me appreciate the yyys for more than just a chorus.
favorite song: 'warrior'




15. " peaceful, the world lays me down" - by noah and the whale (august 11, 2008)
this album was given to me amongst several copies of cds.
i remember having my friend, torrell, tell me that this one is incredible.
like the real incredible, something that you absolutely need to hear.
and so i did, and he was completely right.
this album leaves you filled with emotions, and make you happy just to be alive.

16. "we were dead before the ship even sank" - by modest mouse (march 20, 2007)
i had trouble deciding my favorite modest mouse album.
though i fell in love with the raw emotions of the previous one,
this one has a completely different feel.
well the other one is filled with sadness, this one is too,
but the portrayal is different.. it shows how mm grew up.
and how life happens to you, and you can't just hit pause..
but you need to learn to go with the flow,
without getting swept up in the current.

17. "passover" - by the black angels (april 11, 2006)
this album was purchased for me by a dear friend of mine,
the same person who has bought me two of my other top twenties,
he always knows what i like. this album is a rocky-blues album...
it's raw and modern. the cover is sensational, to vision and touch.
the beat, the feel, the sound.. everything just fits together,
a rare well composed excellence in the music world.
favorite song: 'manipulation'




18. "i am the fun blame monster" - by menomena (may 20, 2003)
like bright eyes, menomena is harsh sometimes.
overly raw. overly emotional. but something about it just hits you in the right place.
this album ends with a nine minute song called 'the monkey's back'...
with words such as 'chrysanthemum' pronounced such as "crossanthumum"
harsh and raw, but noise emotional rock at it's finest.
favorite song: 'rose'




19. "washing machine" - by sonic youth (september 26, 1995)
along with an 'epic' tee-shirt cover, sonic youth's washing machine,
is a classic album. with songs like "little trouble girl";
a half-spoken song, that really hits home,
no one should do without a listen of this album.

20. "wincing the night away" - by the shins (january 23, 2007)
simply beauitful. when i first bought this album,
it automatically flew on to every playlist i made,
it was the top songs on my highest played playlist,
and i alway always listened to it.
it's lovely lyrics with calming music is truly beautiful.
